Two major performing arts festivals arrive in Rome: Romaeuropa and Short Theatre

Rome is hosting two major performing arts festivals this autumn: the 40th edition of Romaeuropa Festival (September 4 to November 16) and the 20th edition of Short Theatre (September 5 to 14). Romaeuropa, directed by Fabrizio Grifasi, features over 110 titles with more than 700 artists across multiple venues including Villa Medici and MAXXI. The opening on September 4 at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma presents Afanador by Ballet Nacional de España, choreographed by Marcos Morau and inspired by Colombian photographer Ruvén Afanador. Other highlights include William Forsythe's Undertainment with Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (September 9-10) and Miet Warlop's Inhale, Delirium, Exhale (September 23-24). Short Theatre, now curated by Silvia Bottiroli, Silvia Calderoni, Ilenia Caleo, and Michele Di Stefano, features over 35 artists and companies from Italy, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Philippines, Iran, Lebanon, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Venues include Mattatoio di Roma, Teatro India, Teatro Vittoria, and Palazzo dei Congressi. Both festivals share a co-creation by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Rabih Mroué titled A little bit of the moon, and aim to provincialize Rome's scene and foster international dialogue.
