Two Magnum Photos exhibitions in Cuneo region celebrate women photographers

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In the Cuneo area of Italy, two interconnected photography exhibitions organized by Fondazione Artea focus on Magnum Photos and its female pioneers. The first, "Fotografia è donna" at La Castiglia in Saluzzo, features 120 images by Inge Morath and Eve Arnold alongside male photographers like Ferdinando Scianna and Robert Capa, organized into six thematic sections. Co-curated by Monica Poggi and Walter Guadagnini, it challenges the notion of a feminine photographic gaze. The second, "Inge Morath. L'occhio e l'anima" at the Filatoio in Caraglio (19 October 2023 – 25 February 2024), celebrates the centenary of the first female photojournalist in Magnum, displaying over 200 works across fifteen sections, including previously unseen color photographs from her US reportage. Curated by Brigitte Blüml-Kaindl, Kurt Kaindl, and Marco Minuz, the exhibition is tailored to the historic silk mill, Europe's oldest surviving silk factory. Additionally, Fondazione Garuzzo presents "La Teoria del Vuoto" at Il Quartiere di Saluzzo, a project by Tommaso Bonaventura, Alessandro Imbriaco, and Fabio Severo exploring the 'Ndrangheta phenomenon through landscape photography, winner of the MiC Strategia Fotografia 2022 grant, inaugurated on 13 October.
