Two exhibitions celebrate Beat Generation icons Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac
Two exhibitions currently on view honor Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, key figures of the Beat Generation. In Uruguay, Photology gallery in Garzon presents 'Allen Ginsberg – Fotografìa y Poetica Beat', the poet's first solo show in South America, featuring 26 original photographs taken by Ginsberg between the 1950s and 1990s. The images document Beat Generation luminaries such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Gregory Corso, and Neal Cassady, as well as later subjects like Francesco Clemente, Willem de Kooning, Ai Weiwei, and Iggy Pop. In Italy, the MAGA museum in Gallarate hosts 'Kerouac. Beat Painting', displaying 80 paintings and drawings, many shown for the first time in Italy, revealing Kerouac's lesser-known visual art practice. Both exhibitions run until early 2018.
