Two Botticelli Venuses Compared in Turin Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Galleria Sabauda in Turin has opened 'Venere incontra Venere. Due opere di Botticelli a confronto', a small exhibition bringing together two versions of Botticelli's Venus, both painted in 1490 and inspired by 'The Birth of Venus' at the Uffizi. One belongs to the Gualino Collection, donated to the Italian state in 1930 and housed at the Galleria Sabauda; the other is from the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin. The show, running until 18 September, marks the first time these works are displayed together in Turin. The Turin Venus has traveled extensively since 2010, exhibited in Frankfurt, Beijing, Macau, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. The exhibition inaugurates the new 'Spazio confronti' of the Galleria Sabauda, a space dedicated to small-scale comparative displays. The next micro-exhibition on 29 September will compare Antoon van Dyck and Giovanni Boldini on the theme of children.
