TWA Hotel Opens at JFK in Eero Saarinen's Restored Terminal
The TWA Hotel, housed in Eero Saarinen's iconic 1962 TWA Flight Center at New York's JFK Airport, opened on May 15 after a 16-year restoration. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2005, had been disused since 2001. The hotel features 512 rooms, eight bars and restaurants including Intelligentsia Coffee and Paris Café by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the runway, the world's largest hotel gym, a reading room curated by Phaidon and Herman Miller, and a museum with over 2,000 artifacts donated by former employees. The restoration team included Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners, Lubrano Ciavarra Architects, and Stonehill Taylor. Interiors feature Saarinen's Womb Chair and Tulip table by Knoll. A restored 1958 Lockheed Constellation "Connie" sits outside, and the lobby retains a split-flap departures board by Solari di Udine.
