Tuwaiq Sculpture 2023 Opens in Riyadh with 30 International Artists

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The fourth edition of Tuwaiq Sculpture, themed 'Energy of Harmony,' launched on January 8, 2023, in Riyadh, featuring 30 artists from 20 countries creating large-scale sculptures that will become permanent public art installations. Selected from 650 applications by a jury chaired by Marek Wolynski, participants include artists from Austria, China, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia. For the first time, locally sourced Saudi granite and sandstone (Riyadh stone) are used, emphasizing the country's sculptural heritage. The symposium runs until February 10, with live sculpting at Durrat Al Riyadh and over 65 community events, including workshops and panel discussions, across Durrat and JAX District. A culminating exhibition takes place February 5–10. Tuwaiq Sculpture, part of the Riyadh Art program launched in 2019, aims to transform the city into a 'gallery without walls' with over 1,000 artworks. To date, it has engaged 90 artists and thousands of visitors. The jury includes Alaa Tarabzouni, Ali Al-Tokhais, Dr. Effat Fadag, and Johannes von Stumm.
