Tuscan wineries Ornellaia and Frescobaldi merge wine with contemporary art
Two wineries in Tuscany, Ornellaia and Frescobaldi, merge the worlds of wine and contemporary art. Since 2009, Ornellaia has been running the Vendemmia d'Artista initiative, which invites artists to create limited-edition labels. The most recent label, designed by Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, represents the 2019 vintage 'Il Vigore,' capturing the essence of that year's climate. From October 5 to 19, 2022, some bottles will be auctioned by Sotheby's, with proceeds benefiting the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation's 'Mind's Eye' program for those with visual impairments. Ornellaia has contributed over $2 million to charitable causes. Meanwhile, Frescobaldi's CastelGiocondo estate has its own biennial prize, 'Artisti per Frescobaldi,' established in 2013, with Gian Maria Tosatti winning the fifth edition in September 2021, now part of the estate's permanent collection.
