Tuscan Village Castagno d'Andrea Becomes Open-Air Contemporary Art Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The village of Castagno d'Andrea, birthplace of Renaissance painter Andrea del Castagno, has been transformed into an open-air contemporary art museum through the initiative 'Percorsi d'arte nel Falterona,' curated by Angelo Caruso of the cultural association City Art. Located within the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna in Tuscany, the project features permanent works by artists Beppe Carrino, Benedetta Chiari, Gabriele Mundula, Vincenzo Luca Picone, Elisa Pietracito, and Stefano Sevegnani, each engaging with themes of spirituality, resilience, memory, landscape, sustainability, and transformation. Additionally, students from the Accademia di Firenze, guided by professors Marcella Anglani and Robert Pettena, have created interventions at the legendary Grotta delle Fate, a mystical cave within the park. Caruso announced that international artists will install works at the cave in coming years. The project aims to foster dialogue between contemporary art, landscape, and local history.
