Turner Prize nominees criticize Tate over extractive practices as all-shortlist collectives announced

The London-based queer Black collective, Black Obsidian Sound System, which has been nominated for the Turner Prize, has voiced concerns regarding Tate's 'extractive and exploitative' practices within the prize culture. They pointed out the lack of support for collective endeavors, noting inadequate financial compensation and a preference for individual creativity. Their remarks also touched on ongoing labor issues at Tate's commercial division and challenges involving patron Anthony d'Offay. This year's Turner Prize shortlist includes only collectives or duos, featuring five nominees instead of the usual four. Each nominee will receive £10,000 and will exhibit at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, with the winner awarded an additional £25,000. Other contenders are Array Collective, Cooking Sections, Gentle/Radical, and Project Art Works. The jury comprises Aaron Cezar, Kim McAleese, Zoé Whitley, and Russell Tovey.
