award · 2026-04-24

The Turner Prize 2026 nominees have been announced, featuring Tanoa Sasraku, whose installations incorporate corporate souvenirs; Marguerite Humeau, known for sculptures of dying elephants; Kira Freije, who creates life-size figures with faces of friends and family; and Simeon Barclay, whose practice spans performance and painting. Alex Farquharson, director of Tate Britain and chair of the prize jury, stated that the four artists take viewers on “extraordinary journeys” and that their works “help us to better understand the world.” Established in 1984, the Turner Prize has previously been awarded to Wolfgang Tillmans, Grayson Perry, and Steve McQueen. Last year's winner was Nnena Kalu, a learning-disabled artist who makes cocoon-like sculptures from videotape and colorful plastic sheeting.
