Turner Prize 2026 Shortlist Announced: Barclay, Freije, Humeau, Sasraku

At a press conference streamed from Tate Britain in London, Alex Farquharson, the director of Tate Britain, revealed the shortlist for the Turner Prize 2026. The four artists nominated are Simeon Barclay, Kira Freije, Marguerite Humeau, and Tanoa Sasraku. Their works will be showcased in an exhibition at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (Mima), starting on 26 September 2026, with the winner to be declared at a ceremony on 10 December 2026. The victor will receive £25,000, while each runner-up will be awarded £10,000. The jury, led by Farquharson, features Alona Pardo, Sarah Allen, Joe Hill, and Sook-Kyung Lee. Barclay's nomination stems from his performance piece, The Ruin, while Freije is recognized for Unspeak the Chorus. Humeau's nomination is for Torches, and Sasraku is acknowledged for Morale Patch. The Turner Prize has been awarded since 1984, with previous winners including Nnena Kalu and Damien Hirst.
