Turner exhibition in Como explores his Italian landscape fascination
A new exhibition titled 'Il percorso di Turner: l'incanto del lago di Como e del paesaggio italiano' opens May 29, 2026, at Palazzo del Broletto and Pinacoteca Civica di Como. It features seven precious watercolors by J.M.W. Turner (1775–1851), who was captivated by the Lake Como landscape. The show traces Turner's stylistic evolution from his 1819 Italian journey sketches to 1842–43 color studies, including works for Samuel Rogers' poem 'Italy'. An immersive film 'JMW Turner On the Wing' by Tate Digital complements the display. Curator Elizabeth Brooke highlights the artist's enduring interest in light, color, and place. The exhibition is a collaboration with Tate London, part of a broader program that also includes contemporary artists Jim Lambie and David Batchelor at San Pietro in Atrio (May 29–September 27, 2026). Mayor Alessandro Rapinese says the partnership elevates Como globally.
