Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Modern bring Turkish art to Istanbul Airport lounge

Turkish Airlines and the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art have partnered to exhibit works from the museum's collection in the Turkish Airlines Business Lounge at Istanbul Airport, the world's largest airport. Starting May 3, 38 works by 16 artists are on display across 130 square meters in a dedicated section titled "A Selection from the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art Collection." The exhibition showcases four major currents of Turkish modern art, alternating 20th-century landscape paintings with abstract works from the 1950s that blend Western and Eastern influences. The artworks will rotate three times a year. M. İlker Aycı, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, stated that the collaboration allows passengers to experience Turkish modern art during layovers. Oya Eczacıbaşı, President of Istanbul Modern, noted that the display introduces Turkish art to domestic and international travelers and invites them to visit the museum. Istanbul Modern, founded in 2004 as the city's first contemporary art museum, is currently temporarily housed at the Union Française d'Istanbul in Beyoğlu, awaiting relocation in 2020 to a new building designed by Renzo Piano.
