Turing Plans U.S. Office, Targets $10B IPO for Autonomous Driving Software

Turing, an autonomous-driving software startup based in Tokyo, intends to establish a U.S. office within the next year and aims for a potential stock market debut in America within five years, targeting a valuation of approximately $10 billion, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. CEO Issei Yamamoto emphasized that the new office will prioritize data collection and research and development, influenced by the significant presence of Japanese automakers in the U.S. Founded in 2021, Turing focuses on developing driver-assistance software, planning for mass production in Japan and the U.S. by 2030, alongside advanced systems for robotaxis. Yamamoto anticipates the company will achieve break-even by 2030 or 2031, with a preference for a U.S. IPO. Turing has partnerships with Subaru and Denso, which also invests in the company. Competing with Tesla, Waymo, and WeRide, Yamamoto believes Turing is three years behind Tesla but less than a year behind Wayve, viewing this as a "second-mover advantage." For AI training, Turing currently uses Nvidia hardware but is evaluating AMD GPUs to cut costs and reduce supplier reliance, with AMD Ventures also investing. The latest financing round will fund GPU purchases.
