Turin's cultural leadership crisis deepens as Laura Milani resigns from Museo Nazionale del Cinema

Laura Milani has resigned as president of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin, citing the need to focus on her roles at IAAD – The Italian University for Design and La scuola possibile. Her departure is the latest in a series of high-profile exits from Turin's cultural institutions, including Patrizia Asproni (Fondazione Torino Musei, 2016), Cristian Valsecchi (Fondazione Torino Musei, 2017), and Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (GAM, 2017). Milani stated she had stabilized the museum's finances and delivered a strategic plan through 2020. The Piedmont region immediately appointed Sergio Toffetti, director of the Archivio nazionale cinema d'impresa in Ivrea, as its representative on the museum's management committee. Meanwhile, two music festivals—Flowers Festival (10–21 July 2018) and MiTo Settembre Musica (3–19 September 2018)—were announced on the same day, offering a positive counterpoint. Mayor Chiara Appendino emphasized MiTo's year-round community engagement and international ambitions.
