Tunisian Artist Nicène Kossentini Wins Richard Mille Art Prize 2024 at Louvre Abu Dhabi Exhibition
Nicène Kossentini has been selected as the recipient of the Richard Mille Art Prize 2024. Her winning project, Landscapes, presents a contemplative exploration of southern Tunisia's border regions through five video screens, examining themes of disappearance and loss. The prize was awarded as part of the Art Here 2024 exhibition at Louvre Abu Dhabi, which continues through December 15, 2024. This year's edition marked the first inclusion of artists from North Africa alongside those from the GCC region. The exhibition features newly commissioned works responding to the theme Awakenings, which focuses on openness and new beginnings. Kossentini becomes both the first Tunisian and first North African artist to receive this recognition. Her artistic practice investigates cultural heritage and hidden histories using photography, video, and sculpture. The jury included H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, curator Simon Njami, Guilhem André, Nujoom Alghanem, and Maya Allison. Other shortlisted artists were Férielle Doulain-Zouari, Lamya Gargash, Moataz Nasr, and Sarah Almehairi. Kossentini has previously shown work at Art Dubai, Marrakech Art Fair, and the Institut du Monde Arabe. The Richard Mille Art Prize aims to create opportunities for regional artists across the Middle East and North Africa.
