Túlio Pinto's Sculptures of Gravity and Tension

artist · 2026-04-30

Túlio Pinto, a Brazilian artist born in 1974 in Brasília and currently residing in Porto Alegre, constructs sculptures that highlight the effects of gravity through materials like iron, glass, sand, and concrete. His artistic approach draws from Brazilian Constructivism and global minimalism, emphasizing the interplay of materials. His earlier creations featured concrete-pressed balloons, while his later works integrated blown glass and steel cables. A notable incident occurred in 2013 when a sand cube fell during installation at São Paulo's Baró Gallery, which Pinto incorporated into the artwork. His installation, Trajetórias Ortogonais, utilized tensioned wooden blocks. In 2012, his piece Práticas de reconhecimento e algumas aproximações paid homage to Giovanni Anselmo by serving salad at the exhibition's conclusion. Pinto has showcased his work in multiple galleries and received accolades, including recognition at the 65th Salão Paranaense. Additionally, he produced the video Unicórnio (2016) during a residency in Phoenix, Arizona.
