Tui ends sponsorship of Married at First Sight after rape allegations
Tui, the holiday company, has terminated its sponsorship of the UK, Australia, and US versions of Married at First Sight on Channel 4. This decision follows a Panorama program where two women reported being raped during the UK show’s filming, while a third recounted a non-consensual sexual encounter. Tui informed BBC News that this choice was made after discussions with Channel 4. TV critic Scott Bryan highlighted that although the international versions are not linked to the allegations, the MAFS brand is still impacted. Channel 4 has removed all episodes from its streaming and linear platforms, along with MAFS UK’s social media. On Wednesday, CEO Priya Dogra expressed her deep regret regarding the women's experiences, confirming that the latest season, already filmed, will still air. Ofcom's chief executive, Dame Melanie Dawes, indicated that the regulator may strengthen guidelines for reality shows if needed. The Metropolitan Police encouraged any potential victims of sexual assault from the show to come forward, noting a lack of criminal reports. Additionally, a group of MPs has reached out to Channel 4 and Ofcom with inquiries about the allegations.
