Trump Imposes 100% Tariff on Heavy Drones, 25% on Smaller Ones

The Trump administration has introduced new tariffs on drones, imposing a 100 percent duty on imports exceeding 25 kilograms and a 25 percent tariff on lighter models, citing concerns over national security. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressed that the U.S. is "too reliant" on foreign unmanned aircraft systems. These tariffs will impact U.S. allies, with the EU, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein facing a 15 percent tariff, while the U.K. will see a 10 percent duty. Foreign manufacturers can sidestep these tariffs by producing within the U.S. The tariffs will come into effect in 21 days, with less sensitive components subject to enforcement 180 days after signing. Experts regard this as a crucial step to reduce dependence on China and revitalize American industries.
