This extension, confirmed on Monday, is a response to disruptions in global crude supplies and escalating fuel prices caused by the Iran conflict. According to White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, the waiver has boosted the domestic supply of crucial products. The updated conditions will now require individual assessments for each voyage rather than allowing blanket exemptions under the Jones Act, which requires that cargo transported between U.S. ports be on ships that are U.S.-built, owned, and crewed. This waiver, expiring on August 16, marks the longest suspension of the law to date.
