Trullo 227: Contemporary Art Invades a Traditional Puglian Trullo in Martina Franca
Trullo 227 took place over two days in Martina Franca, marking the first time contemporary art was showcased in a traditional Puglian trullo. Curated by Graziella Melania Geraci and put together by Shazar Gallery, the event featured pieces from 11 artists, including Eli Acheson-Elmassry from Wales, Sudan’s Mutaz Elemam, and Ukraine’s Marta Strilchuk. The organizers described the relationship between the artworks and the historic trullo as “a struggle with the walls of the space.” This event reflects the growth of contemporary art in Puglia, drawing inspiration from Pescetrullo, a trullo created in 2014 by Gaetano Pesce and owned by Caterina Tognon and Gabriele Pampini.
