Troutbeck Adds Four River Cottages by Stonehill Taylor and Champalimaud Design
In Dutchess County, New York, the historic estate Troutbeck has introduced four new river cottages that overlook the Webutuck River. Crafted by Stonehill Taylor, with interiors by Champalimaud Design, these cottages take cues from the early American architectural style of the estate’s Benton Cottage (c. 1890). Available in one- and two-bedroom layouts, they showcase natural hues and textures. According to founder Anthony Champalimaud, the cottages reflect the architectural essence of Benton Cottage, featuring straightforward forms, wood framing, and clapboarding. Landscape architects Reed Hilderbrand have planted over 100 canopy trees and 500 shrubs alongside native grasses and wildflowers. The cottages are furnished with four-poster beds by Ian Ingersoll of Cornwall, CT, ceramic lamps from Dumais Made in Bantam, CT, antique blanket boxes, Marcel Breuer chairs, and artwork by Kiva Motnik. Champalimaud noted that the design aims for the cottages to harmonize with the landscape over time.
