Triscele: Three Street Artists Embark on a Crowdfunded Tour of Sicily

other · 2026-05-05

Martina Merlini (Bologna, 1986), Moneyless (Milan, 1980), and Sten Lex (Rome, 1982; Taranto, 1982) have launched Triscele, a participatory art project traversing Sicily. Named after the three-legged mythological symbol of the island, the initiative is organized with Catania-based association Ritmo, known for promoting muralism. The artists will travel across Sicily creating public murals and installations in cities like Messina, Catania, Ragusa, and Palermo, as well as rural and coastal areas. They will self-finance through crowdfunding, offering works, multiples, and editions in exchange for donations, with a budget of around €20,000. The project aims to be the pilot for a future journey up the Italian peninsula, inspired by Opiemme's 2013 painting and poetry trip. Funds will cover travel, materials, and a documentary book.
