Triple Canopy's Postdigital Evolution from Online Magazine to Multimedia Hub

publication · 2026-04-20

In 2008, the New York-based collective Triple Canopy introduced its online magazine with the tagline 'Slow down the Internet.' This publication integrates text, images, video, audio, and interactivity, centering on art and literature. Notable recent works include Sara Greenberger Rafferty's animated GIF, Rebecca Bird's animated narrative, Isabelle Moffat's essay on the brain, and Adela Jušić's interactive exploration of Sarajevo. A revamped version was unveiled in late 2013 to better suit evolving reading preferences. Triple Canopy's style is reminiscent of 1960s and 70s multimedia journals like Aspen, whereas e-flux journal focuses on lengthy texts. The collective's relaunch was honored at the Whitney Biennial in spring 2014, updating its slogan to 'Slow down the world.' The article was published in March 2014 in ArtReview.
