Trieste's LETS Museum Celebrates 20th-Century Literary Heritage

Trieste's new Museo della Letteratura, LETS, opened in Palazzo Biserini at piazza Hortis, costing €550,000. The museum rehouses the Museo Sveviano and adds dedicated rooms for James Joyce and Umberto Saba. Its centerpiece is the Libreria, with 19 thematic modules and 7 rotating stations, offering over 1,000 books via interactive tech. Other sections include Cinematografo delle Storie, linking cinema to Trieste's literary scene, and Edicola della storia for visitor orientation. The project, designed by architect Lorenzo Greppi with teamLETS under Riccardo Cepach's supervision, also features a Caffè Letterario in the courtyard. Originally announced in 2019, renovations began in 2021, and the exhibition design was finalized in 2022. The museum aims to highlight Trieste's role in European modernism, featuring authors like Italo Svevo, James Joyce, Umberto Saba, Claudio Magris, Boris Pahor, and others. The LETSlisten audio project is already active, offering free audiobooks of Friuli Venezia Giulia literature.
