Triennale Milano's Home Sweet Home Explores the Contemporary House
For its centenary, Triennale Milano presents 'Home Sweet Home', a retrospective exhibition that offers an intersectional analysis of the house as the fundamental element of living and architecture. Curated by Nina Bassoli, the show is conceived as a 'mostra di mostre' (exhibition of exhibitions), featuring site-specific installations by seven architecture studios and research projects, interspersed with retrospectives on Lacaton&Vassal, Grasso Cannizzo, and Diller+Scofidio. The exhibition unfolds across three macro-sections: Care, Share, and Transform. Care addresses daily acts of maintenance and cleaning, illustrated by MAIO's collective kitchen prototypes and Cécile Baumann's 'Parliament of Plants', which highlights the colonial history of plants in domestic spaces. Share includes DOGMA's reflection on the tropical 'long house' typology that harmonizes work and private needs under one roof. Transform concludes with Lacaton&Vassal's celebrated reuse project of the grand ensemble in Bordeaux, a manifesto for sustainable architecture. The exhibition also features historical sections with photographic reproductions, and the installation by Captcha Architecture uses reused, hyperstatic display devices from the archive. 'Home Sweet Home' aims to create a collective dialogue on domestic typology, responding to the post-pandemic multifunctionality of the home.
