Triennale Milano Retrospective on Vittorio Giorgini
The Triennale di Milano presents a retrospective on Vittorio Giorgini (1926-2010), the Florentine outsider architect, curated by Emilia Giorgi. The exhibition, supported by B.A.Co. (Baratti Architettura e Arte Contemporanea) and the Archivio Vittorio Giorgini, with scientific consultancy from Marco Del Francia and set design by Emanuela Salimei, opened during Milano Arch Week directed by Stefano Boeri. It features Giorgini's most famous houses—Casa Esagono (1957) and Casa Saldarini (1962), both in the Gulf of Baratti—alongside his visionary project 'Ipotesi per un habitat più naturale,' first shown in 1968 at Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. Giorgini, described as an 'architecture pirate,' built Casa Esagono as a prefabricated modular summer cabin where he hosted intellectuals like André Bloc, Gordon Matta-Clark, Isamu Noguchi, and Emilio Vedova. Casa Saldarini, a membrane structure in mesh and concrete using an unprecedented technique, was verified only through scale models ridden by Giorgini's children. The exhibition also explores Giorgini's themes: non-violence toward landscape, hybridization of architecture and natural sciences, and contemporary art influences.
