Triennale Milano Reclaims Historic Nightclub Space for Expansion
Triennale Milano is reclaiming the spaces of the historic Old Fashion nightclub, located within the Palazzo dell'Arte, after the lease expired. The club, which has operated for 70 years under various names including El Trianon and Piper, will close on January 31, 2024, with a farewell party on January 20. The space, adjacent to the Museo del Design opened in 2021, will be integrated into Triennale's ambitious renovation of the Palazzo dell'Arte, set to complete by 2026 for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Director General Carla Morogallo stated the expansion aligns with Triennale's mission to broaden its cultural offerings in dance, music, performing arts, and more. The club's lease generated €300,000 annually, but Triennale expects no negative economic impact. The club's history includes a 1968 Jimi Hendrix concert and recognition as a historic shop by the Municipality of Milan in 2006. The separation is amicable, with ongoing collaboration on external requalification involving the prefecture, Municipality of Milan, and other entities.
