Triennale Milano Opens Voce, a Sound Art Space in Former Nightclub

institutional · 2026-04-26

On May 13, 2025, Triennale Milano inaugurates Voce, a 300-square-meter space dedicated to listening, sound installations, and live performances. Located in the Piano Parco area, the venue occupies the former Old Fashioned nightclub, which closed in 2024. The space is part of Triennale's ongoing renovation led by director general Carla Morogallo, following the 2023 opening of Cuore, an archive and research center. Voce's concept was developed by Carlo Antonelli, with acoustic design by Giorgio Di Salvo and lighting by Anonima Luci. The space features a cocktail bar and a 700-square-meter garden with light works by Marcello Maloberti. It will host a collection of original musical works commissioned exclusively for the venue, as described by president Stefano Boeri, who compares them to Renaissance paintings or Baroque sculptures in a museum. The live program, coordinated by Damiano Gulli, includes performances by Boosta (May 16), La Niña (June 11), and Beth Gibbons (July 11), as well as collaborations with Kappa Futurfestival and Terraforma Exo. The site has a rich history: in the 1950s it broadcast Rai's third channel, in the 1960s it hosted the Piper club (where Jimi Hendrix performed in 1968), and from the 1970s it operated as Old Fashioned, a iconic Milanese nightclub. Triennale regained direct management of the space in January 2024.
