Triennale Milano celebrates centenary of architect and designer Paolo Tilche
On January 15, Triennale Milano will host a study day dedicated to Paolo Flavio Oscar Tilche (Alexandria, Egypt, 1925 – Milan, 2002), marking the centenary of his birth. The event, introduced by Triennale President Stefano Boeri and Marco Sammicheli, Director of the Museo del Design Italiano, will feature speakers including Giorgio Bigatti, Giulio Barazzetta, and Silvia Latis. Tilche graduated in architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1949, initially working on residential and industrial projects in Milan-Bicocca, Legnano, and Iglesias. In 1955 he shifted to design, co-founding the Arform boutique with his wife, painter Anna Pontremoli, which sold furniture and objects by Italian and European brands until its closure in 2020. That same year, collaborator Salvatore Alberio won the Compasso d'Oro for the A-A round table. From 1956 to 1963 Tilche co-hosted "Il piacere della casa" on RAI, Italy's first TV show on interior design and decoration, with journalist Mario Tedeschi. He also worked with Fratelli Guzzini, Olivetti, Gruppo Industriale Busnelli, Ideal Standard, and Bonacina. Despite his influence, his career has not been fully reconstructed; the study day aims to begin a comprehensive rediscovery.
