TriEclipse: Citizen Science Project to Document Animal Behavior During Three Solar Eclipses in Spain

The TriEclipse project, a citizen science initiative, will document animal behavior during three consecutive solar eclipses crossing Spain within less than a year and a half, a first in history. Spain, noted as Europe's most biodiverse territory, offers a unique opportunity to observe wildlife responses to this rare natural phenomenon. The project, led by García-Rojo, aims to raise awareness of the country's natural richness. Hundreds of participants across Spain will film wild animals, marine species, farm fauna, and zoo animals using a range of equipment from smartphones to professional terrestrial and underwater cinema cameras, as well as camera traps, thermal vision equipment, infrared sensors, and other specialized recording systems. The goal is to engage the public, allowing them to witness species' reactions to an extremely rare event. Recordings will be made both within the eclipse's totality path and in peripheral areas where solar obscuration exceeds 98%. TriEclipse combines research, outreach, and citizen participation, with image professionals, naturalists, photographers, researchers, and citizens collaborating to generate a scientifically valuable dataset.
