Triangle of Sadness wins Palme d'Or at Cannes 2022
The 75th Cannes Film Festival jury, led by Vincent Lindon, awarded the Palme d'Or to Ruben Östlund's Triangle of Sadness, a social satire targeting the fashion world and the obsession with appearance. The film, distributed in Italy by Teodora Film, follows Östlund's previous critique of the art world in The Square. Best Actress went to Zar Amir Ebrahimi for Holy Spider by Ali Abbasi, while Best Actor was Song Kang-Ho for Broker by Kore-eda Hirokazu. Park Chan-Wook won Best Director for Decision to Leave. The Grand Prix was shared by Close by Lukas Dhont and Stars at Noon by Claire Denis. A special 75th edition jury prize went to Tori et Lokita by the Dardenne brothers. The Jury Prize was shared by Eo by Jerzy Skolimowski and Le otto montagne by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen. Best Screenplay was awarded to Boy from Heaven by Tarik Saleh. The Camera d'Or for best first feature went to War Pony by Riley Keough and Gina Gammell, with a special mention to Plan 75 by Hayakawa Chie. Best Short Film was The Water Murmurs by Jianying Chen, with a special jury prize to Lori by Abinash Bikram Shah. In the Un Certain Regard section, Les Pires won the top prize. Notable absentees from the awards included Nostalgia by Mario Martone and Les Amandiers by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.
