Treviso Contemporanea: Three Exhibitions on World Representation

The Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche and Fondazione Imago Mundi have launched Treviso Contemporanea, a new platform for contemporary art and research in Treviso, Italy. The initiative debuts with three complementary exhibitions running until May 29 across three venues: Ca' Scarpa, the church of San Teonisto, and the Gallerie delle Prigioni. At Ca' Scarpa, "Mind the Map! Disegnare il mondo dall'XI al XXI secolo" curated by Massimo Rossi presents medieval mappae mundi, atlases, and geographic tapestries alongside contemporary artworks, exploring how maps reflect societal values. At the Gallerie delle Prigioni, "Atlante Temporaneo. Cartografie del sé nell'arte di oggi" curated by Alfredo Cramerotti features 14 artists who reinterpret mapping through subconscious, body, and memory. At San Teonisto, "Terra Incognita" curated by D Harding displays 228 Aboriginal Australian paintings from the Imago Mundi Collection arranged horizontally on the floor to avoid hierarchy. The Fondazione Imago Mundi, founded by Luciano Benetton, holds over 26,000 10x12 cm works from 160 countries. The exhibitions aim to provide critical tools and artistic perspectives on how we perceive and know the world.
