Tresoldi Academy debuts site-specific installation Cerimonia in Bologna

Edoardo Tresoldi's TRAC – Tresoldi Academy, founded in collaboration with STUDIO STUDIO STUDIO and YAC – Young Architects Competitions, has completed its first site-specific installation, Cerimonia, in the former Mercatone Uno area of Bologna. The work, a five-meter-high structure of metal mesh, materials, and soil sourced from the site, was created by Tresoldi and 15 students selected from over 500 applicants worldwide. Promoted by Urban Up | Unipol and supported by G124 (Renzo Piano's research group on suburbs) and botanist Stefano Mancuso, the installation engages with the site's decay and spontaneous vegetation. The earth collected from the area is integrated into the piece, allowing vegetation to gradually overtake and redefine its form over time, emphasizing a dialogue between architecture, nature, and temporality. Cerimonia will remain on view throughout 2021; due to COVID-19 restrictions, it is currently visible only from outside daily until December 4, with guided visits on Saturdays resuming when possible. The site, owned by Gruppo Unipol, is slated for redevelopment after ten years of abandonment.
