Trento's 1970s Architecture and Abstraction Explored in Galleria Civica Exhibition

The Galleria Civica in Trento presents 'Almanacco 70. Architettura e astrazione,' an exhibition examining the interplay between architecture, art, and urban planning during the 1970s in Italy. The show focuses on three key figures—Marcello Armani, Luciano Perini, and Gian Leo Salvotti—whose projects shaped Trento's transition from a rural to an industrial society. Highlights include the Madonna Bianca housing towers, built in four years without the decay seen in similar projects like Palermo's Zen or Scampia, and the 'Rosso e Nero' condominium, which recalls Piet Mondrian and the Neoplasticist tradition of Adalberto Libera. The exhibition also features works by artists Anna Maria Gelmi, Aldo Schmid, and Romano Perusini, who engage with geometric abstraction. Photographer Fernando Guerra, winner of the 2015 Architectural Photographer of the Year award, provides impartial documentation of the buildings.
