Trenitalia Launches Barocco Line Connecting Sicilian Baroque Cities

other · 2026-04-27

Trenitalia has introduced the Barocco Line, a summer train service connecting key cities of the Sicilian Baroque in the Val di Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002. Running until September 6, 2020, the service operates on weekends with 18 connections linking Siracusa, Noto, Scicli, Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Ragusa, and Donnafugata. The trains, Minuetto models, offer about 2,600 seats per holiday. Fares range from €4.20 (Siracusa to Noto) to €9.90 (Siracusa to Donnafugata, 2h10m). Discounts include 50% off for children aged 4–12 and 10% for groups of 10. Tickets are available at Trenitalia ticket offices, self-service machines, authorized retailers, online, and via the Trenitalia app. The initiative promotes proximity tourism amid the COVID-19 pandemic, encouraging discovery of local cultural heritage, including Baroque architecture, enogastronomy (Donnafugata wines, Modica chocolate), and literary connections (Inspector Montalbano TV series based on Andrea Camilleri's novels).
