exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Fondation Cartier's exhibition 'Trees' opens at Shanghai's Power Station of Art from July 9 to October 10, 2021. Curated by anthropologist Bruce Albert and Fei Dawei, the show features 200 works by 30 artists from Europe, China, Latin America, India, Iran, the Amazon, and the Nivaclé and Guaraní communities of Paraguay's Gran Chaco. New Chinese participants include Huang Yong Ping, Hu Liu, and Zhang Enli. Architect Stefano Boeri creates a site-specific installation linked to his Forest City project in Guangxi province, which will contain over 40,000 trees. An audiovisual tour adds immersive elements. Notable contributors include botanist Stefano Mancuso, who directs the LINV and invented the Jellyfish Barge floating greenhouse; Fabrice Hyber, winner of the 1997 Venice Biennale Golden Lion; Luiz Zerbini of Stephen Friedman Gallery; Joseca from the Yanomami community; Johanna Calle with her series on Colombia's land law; and botanist Francis Hallé, known for his canopy raft 'Radeau des Cimes' and detailed tree drawings.
