Transparent cabin for stargazing installed in Piedmont mountains

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Architects Fabio Vignolo and Francesca Turnaturi have installed Immerso, a small transparent-walled and roofed cabin in the Val Chisone mountains of Piedmont, Italy. The structure allows guests to observe the starry sky while sleeping. The project aims to experiment with a new type of tourist accommodation, following the international trend of glamping (luxury camping). The cabin can be assembled in just two hours without power tools, using interlocking birch phenolic plywood panels. According to Vignolo, it is "a temporary and contemporary shelter, an unprecedented and surprising way to live in nature." Turnaturi emphasizes the extreme ease of assembly, even by non-expert operators.
