Transmediale Festival Celebrates 30th Edition in Berlin

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Transmediale, which started as VideoFilmFest in Germany back in 1988, is marking its 30th year with a month-long celebration called "ever elusive," running from February to March 2017. Originally aimed at highlighting experimental video art often ignored by major festivals like Berlinale, it has transformed into a global forum that explores the interplay between art, technology, and society. This year's event challenges the typical boundaries between humans and non-humans, as well as nature and technology. From February 2 to 5, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt will feature a mix of performances, workshops, and conferences, alongside excursions named "Imaginaries, Interventions, Ecologies." A highlight is the "Alien Matter" exhibition, curated by Inke Arns, showcasing around twenty artists who delve into the relationship between natural and artificial elements.
