Trans Europe Halles leads 'Rebuilding to Last' for inclusive urban regeneration

institutional · 2026-04-26

Trans Europe Halles, a non-profit organization active for over forty years in European cultural and social cooperation, is leading the 'Rebuilding to Last' project with numerous partners to increase the impact of inclusive urban regeneration across Europe, focusing on sustainability and coexistence. Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme, the project involves design and urban regeneration operators in co-creation workshops at Institut for X (Denmark), Stanica-Truc Spherique (Slovakia), and Communitism (Greece). In autumn, free online courses on reuse, recycling, sustainable design, and construction will be offered via the Trans Europe Halles website, along with a free e-book on innovative strategies and results. At Communitism's new headquarters Kookoli, workshops produced furniture and decoration for internal and external spaces, fostering peer learning. Communitism will soon open a swap shop for used art and clothing and a community-run refreshment point, and plans urban intervention projects like HeriScope and the Tiny Spaces, Deep Connections residency. Trans Europe Halles offers mobility projects, EU-co-funded international cooperation initiatives, professional training, and an annual conference (next in June 2025 in Sofia, Bulgaria). Upcoming events include the TEH Camp Meeting 98 in Thessaloniki from October 10-13, focusing on knowledge transmission in independent artistic practice with environmental sustainability and collective creation.
