Tramandars: Street Art in the Province as Public Art and Cultural Mission

Tramandars, a multidisciplinary movement founded in 2017 by Gaetano (Tani) Russo, aims to transmit art and culture in historical places through site-specific works involving artists, authors, scholars, and designers. Based in Somma Vesuviana (NA), the group focuses on public art rather than street art, using the street as a museum. Their first major work, Alma Memoria (2018), was created by Argentine artist Francisco Bosoletti in the historic center of Casamale. In 2020, during the pandemic, they collaborated with artist and designer Gianpiero D'Alessandro on Love is Energy, a mural on an electrical cabinet commissioned by E-distribuzione, addressing themes of love, ecology, and anti-racism. The movement emphasizes "educating to feelings" and creating monuments that preserve emotions. Future projects include a series on three women linked to Somma and Greek mythology, works with artist Franz Cerami and the American duo Fallen Fruit, and a new piece in Naples under the What is Energy spin-off with Enel. Tramandars was co-founded with the late Prof. Gaetano di Maiolo, who inspired the group to turn ideas into reality.
