Tramandars Revitalizes Medieval Borgo Casamale Through Contemporary Art

Founded in 2017 by Gaetano Maria Russo and Davide Battaglia and formalized in 2020, the cultural association Tramandars aims to rejuvenate the medieval borgo Casamale in Somma Vesuviana through modern art. Its members include Christian Taranto, the curator, along with Domenico Urraro, Lucia Egidio, Alessandra De Francesco, and Domenico Allocca. Since 2022, Tramandars has partnered with the FAO for the World Food Forum and initiated the Art Summit to support emerging artists, leading to the Vesuvio Contemporary Residency at Casa Tramandars, where artists produce site-specific works. In 2022, Putèca was transformed into an experimental art venue, and the hypogeum of the Collegiate Church was restored for exhibitions, such as Vittorio Valiante's Mater–ia. Giotto Calendoli's light installation, Luci in Fuga, will be displayed until January 21, 2025.
