Tracey Emin's Neon Message Greets Travelers at St Pancras
A twenty-meter-long pink neon sign reading 'I Want My Time With You' now hangs from the steel-and-glass roof of London's St. Pancras International station. The work, by British artist Tracey Emin, is the sixth edition of Terrace Wires, a public art program organized by station operator HS1 Ltd. in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts. Emin, a Royal Academician, describes the piece as both a romantic gesture—'I can't think of anything more romantic than meeting a loved one at the station, hugging them and hearing them say 'I want to spend my time with you''—and a political message to European travelers arriving in London, referencing her pro-European stance following the Brexit referendum. The artwork is the largest text piece Emin has ever created and will remain on view until the end of 2018. It inaugurates events for St Pancras International's 150th anniversary and precedes the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Arts, which on May 19, 2019, will unveil new spaces designed by David Chipperfield.
