Tracey Emin's Largest Italian Retrospective Opens at Palazzo Strozzi
Palazzo Strozzi in Florence announces the largest retrospective ever staged in Italy of British artist Tracey Emin (born 1963 in Croydon). Curated by Arturo Galansino, the exhibition titled 'Tracey Emin. Sex and Solitude' opens to the public on March 16 and runs until July 20. It brings together over sixty works spanning from the 1990s to the present, including paintings, drawings, videos, photographs, and sculptures, many shown in Italy for the first time. The show traces key moments in Emin's career, exploring themes of the body, desire, love, and sacrifice. Emin, known for her candid autobiographical work, gained fame in 1999 for her Turner Prize nomination and the installation 'My Bed' at Tate Gallery London, which featured her unmade bed surrounded by personal objects. She represented the UK at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007 and was appointed Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy in 2011, one of the first women in that role. Recently, she opened the Tracey Karima Emin (TKE) Studios in Margate, a fully funded professional studio space for artists including a free residency.
