TOXIC's 'ALWAYS EVER SINCE 83' at Woodbury House

From May 14 to June 26, 2026, Torrick Ablack, also known as TOXIC, will showcase a significant solo exhibition at Woodbury House in Mayfair, London. The exhibition, entitled 'ALWAYS EVER SINCE 83', commemorates 1983 as the pivotal year when he first envisioned himself as an artist. It will include new paintings as well as pieces from 1983, reflecting over forty years of his work. TOXIC emerged from the vibrant downtown New York art scene of the early 1980s, alongside figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Rammellzee. He participated in the influential 'Post-Graffiti' exhibition at Sidney Janis Gallery that year and traveled to Los Angeles with Basquiat and Rammellzee, later depicted in Basquiat's 'Hollywood Africans'. The exhibition emphasizes Rammellzee's Ikonoklast Panzerism theory, which has shaped TOXIC's use of coded symbols. His new creations feature layered acrylic and spray paint, blending abstraction with figuration. Joseph Bannan, a partner at Woodbury House, notes that this exhibition serves as a long-overdue acknowledgment of TOXIC's vital contribution to 20th-century culture.
