Toulouse-Lautrec retrospective opens at Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo
Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo, built in 1474 for Cardinal Bartolomeo Roverella but left incomplete after his death, underwent a major restoration in 2000 with support from the Comune and Fondazione Cariparo. It now houses the Pinacoteca dell'Accademia dei Concordi, the Seminario Vescovile di Rovigo, and temporary exhibition spaces. From February 23, 2024, the palace hosts a major exhibition on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901), featuring 200 works including paintings, pastels, and posters from leading European and American museums. Curated by Jean-David Jumeau-Lafond, Francesco Parisi, and Fanny Girard (director of the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi), the show explores the artist's diverse interests and his relationship with Parisian Realist, Impressionist, and Symbolist painters of the late 19th century. The exhibition is divided into sections: one contextualizes Paris 1885–1900, while others focus on iconic venues and artistic hubs like Le Chat Noir and the renewal of graphic arts. A special section curated by Johan Naldi highlights the French movement Les Arts Incohérents, which anticipated 20th-century avant-garde techniques such as Dadaism.
