Total Solar Eclipse Plunges Spain into Darkness, Wows Crowds Across Europe

On Wednesday, a total solar eclipse turned day into night in Spain, marking the country's first such event in over a century. The eclipse, which was also visible in parts of Greenland and northern Russia, drew gasps, cheers, and tears from spectators. The moon passed between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow that traveled from the remote Arctic region of northern Russia, across Greenland, and then over the Atlantic Ocean to northern Spain. The spectral glow of the sun's corona was visible as the moon obscured the sun, creating an eerie darkness. Witnesses in Spain, including Isabel Troyano, a 56-year-old homemaker in Tarragona, described the experience as awe-inspiring, saying she got goosebumps. Alejandro Cuesta, a 30-year-old nanoscience researcher, called it "incredible" and "the most beautiful thing I've seen in my entire life." The eclipse was the first in mainland Europe since 2006. In Germany, a man danced during a partial solar eclipse on the Great Feldberg mountain northwest of Frankfurt. The event was a rare celestial spectacle that captivated audiences across the continent.
