Tosin Oshinowo appointed curator of 2023 Sharjah Architecture Triennial
In 2023, the second Sharjah Architecture Triennial will be spearheaded by Nigerian architect Tosin Oshinowo, under the theme of 'adaptability'. Hoor Al Qasimi, the director, chose Oshinowo's submission for its significance in addressing global challenges faced by the Global South. Oshinowo's approach is inspired by the historical context of Sharjah and urban centers across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, emphasizing design strategies that respond to scarcity. Established in 2012, her Lagos-based firm, cmDesign Atelier, followed her education in London and experience with Skidmore Owings & Merrill and James Cubitt Architects. Her portfolio includes socially and ecologically focused projects, such as a UN initiative in northern Nigeria and the Maryland Mall in Lagos. Oshinowo is a registered architect in Nigeria and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
