Torsten Andersson's Posthumous Exhibition Reveals Eccentric Painter's Conceptual Investigations

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From April 14 to May 19, 2018, Galerie Nordenhake in Stockholm will host 'Torsten Andersson: Ny tyngdkraft, ny epok,' marking the first significant showcase of the late Swedish artist since his passing in 2009. The exhibition includes paintings created between 1977 and 2006, following a break from 1966 until the mid-1970s due to a conflict with Stockholm's academy. Featured works comprise 'Gravsten' (2005), 'Porträtt av en målning – Bild av skulptur' (1980–89), and the 'Pinnaskulptur' series (2005–6). Additionally, his innovative pieces such as 'Kansersjuk skulptur' (2000) and 'Tygskulptur' (2001–02) reflect his unique artistic approach. Curator Stefanie Hessler emphasizes Andersson's humor and his exploration of painting as a form of communication.
