Torre Moresca at Villa Torlonia reopens in Rome

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Starting April 1, 2023, the Torre Moresca (Moorish Tower) at Villa Torlonia in Rome reopens to the public every Saturday through June 24. Designed by architect Giuseppe Jappelli in 1839 for Prince Alessandro Torlonia, the tower is part of a Moorish-style complex inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, which also includes the Serra Moresca (reopened in late 2021). Up to 20 visitors at a time can access the tower with the Serra ticket, booking via call center 060608. The two-story tower features a dining room on the upper floor with polychrome stuccoes, cast-iron frames, and colored glass windows. A hidden mechanism once lifted a central sofa to the ceiling while a fully set table rose from the kitchen below. The initiative is organized by Roma Culture and Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, with Zètema Progetto Cultura.
